Mark H. Senter III, PhD

Mark H. Senter III is chair of the Educational Ministries Department and professor of educational ministries at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He has been at Trinity since 1982. Prior to that, Senter served as youth pastor for eleven years and as pastor of Christian education at Wheaton Bible Church for seven years.

Dr. Senter earned the diploma from Moody Bible Institute; the Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of Illinois, the Master of Arts in Christian education from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and the Doctor of Philosophy in foundations of education from Loyola University, Chicago.

Dr. Senter's areas of expertise include youth ministry, volunteerism, administration, and continuing education. He is a member of the North American Professors of Christian Education and currently serves as chair of the Board of the Association of Youth Ministry Educators. He is a consultant for churches and parachurch agencies in periods of transition.

Dr. Senter's teaching experience includes a two-year assignment at Torch Trinity Graduate School of Theology in Seoul, Korea, where he served as a visiting professor in education ministries. Torch Trinity is an English-language seminary that trains Asians for ministry on the Pacific Rim and beyond. In addition, he has served as visiting faculty at sixteen other colleges and seminaries.

Dr. Senter's publications include Four Views of Youth Ministry and the Church (General editor; Zondervan, 2001), Reaching a Generation for Christ (coedited with Richard Dunn; Moody, 1997), The Coming Revolution in Youth Ministry (Victor, 1992), Recruiting Volunteers in the Church (Victor, 1990), and The Complete Book of Youth Ministry (coedited with Warren Benson; Moody, 1987). He contributed to More Than Conquerors, and his numerous articles have been published in periodicals such as Youthworker, Moody, Christianity Today, Leadership, and Christian Education Journal. Dr. Senter has also written chapters for other volumes on youth ministry.

Dr. Senter and his wife, Ruth, reside in north suburban Chicago. They have two grown children. Ruth is also an author. In his spare time, Dr. Senter enjoys sports, biking, and photography.
