Karen Halvorsen Schreck, PhD
Dr. Karen Halvorsen Schreck is visiting assistant professor of English at Trinity College. She holds a BA from Wheaton College, and MA from S.U.N.Y Binghamton, and the PhD from The University of Illinois at Chicago.
Prior to Trinity, Dr. Schreck taught at Wheaton College, DePaul University, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her main academic interests include Women's Literature, Ethnicity, and the Immigrant Experience in Literature of the United States, Children's Literature, and Creative Writing. She has worked extensively as a freelance writer and has published a children's book, Lucy's Family Tree (Tilbury House), and a novel for young adults, Dream Journal (Hyperion). She is an active member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, as well as The Association of Writers and Writing Programs. She lives with her husband and two children in Wheaton, Illinois.
