If you are contacted by someone who says that he or she needs to send you a check in an amount other than the asking (or agreed upon) price (usually much higher), this is a scam. The check is fraudulent, so do not send that person a check for the difference in amount. Agree to accept payment only for the exact price and never send an item without the check clearing through your bank.
