Athletic Training Department News
Chicago Marathon
Every October the TIU Athletic Training Education Program invites our current and prospective athletic training students to be a part of the group of medical volunteers for the Chicago Marathon. The program began this tradition in 2001, and was the first college level program to participate in this way. This opportunity, was brought about with the help of Larry Scire MS, ATC the Director of Sports Medicine Services at Condell Medical Center, which provides our students a unique exposure to injuries and ailments that they might not otherwise come in contact with. Shown below are the members of the TIU Athletic Training Education Program who participated at the 2007 event, the first Chicago Marathon cancelled as a result of the hot environmental conditions during the race.
Thailand Missions Trip
The TIU Athletic Training Education Program went on its first mission trip in June 2004. Faculty, students, and alumni traveled as part of a group to Thailand to help teach their athletic training skills at three different universities and sports colleges. They worked with the Asian Sports Academy, which is affiliated with Athletes in Action here in the U.S. Please pray for more opportunities for the ATEP to work in missions in the future.
Accreditation
Trinity's Athletic Training Education Program was granted accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in October 2003! Since that initial accreditation all accredited Athletic Training Education Programs are now accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
