TIU’s Director of Athletics Patrick Gilliam said, “I am very excited to have Coach Euler coming aboard as our new men’s basketball coach and become a part of the TIU athletic family. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position, not to mention a level of maturity that will benefit the long-term growth of the program. Over the years, I have interacted with a number of students and athletes who have had the privilege of working under his leadership, and the feedback about his abilities and influence is tremendously positive. I look forward to having him here with us and watching him lead our program for many years to come.”
Coach Euler will feel right at home as a member of the TIU community since he has been very successful teaching and coaching young people in the Christian higher learning environment. Coach Euler says, “I am thankful for the opportunity to be the head men’s basketball coach at Trinity, a place where the desire to honor Christ is first and foremost, and where excellence in the classroom and on the court is expected. I am grateful for the foundation that has been laid here by Coach Davidson and hope to continue to strive for excellence for the glory of God. I am excited to return to the Chicago area to get to work with and recruit quality young men who have a desire to follow Christ, excel in the classroom, and pursue a nationally recognized basketball program.” The Trojans’ basketball team has a positive future with the addition of Coach Andy Euler. Coach Euler joins the TIU Family after serving the past two years as Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at a fellow NAIA institution that competes in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, Covenant College, in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Previous to his time at Covenant, Euler enjoyed a long tenure at Wheaton academy in Wheaton, Illinois, where he earned an impressive coaching record of 258-171. Eighteen of his former Warriors continued their playing careers, going on to play at NCAA Divisions I, II, III, and NAIA institutions. Coach Euler achieved PSL coach of the year recognition twice while coaching at Wheaton, as well as the IHSAA District 9 coach of the year award in 2000. Preceding his time at Wheaton Academy, Euler spent time coaching and teaching at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and Pillsbury College in Owatonna, Minn. In the 1991-92 season, Euler directed the Anchorage Christian High School basketball team to the AAA state championship title where Euler received coach of the year honors. Euler earned his bachelor of education degree from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, where he played intercollegiate basketball and was recognized as his team’s MVP.
